Different items have different storage needs
Read the manual for each appliance you want to store. Larger items will also have specific instruction for transportation to avoid bumps and scrapes along the way.

Run a final cycle with vinegar on your washing machine and dishwasher prior to storage to remove excess detergent, which can harden and cause damage over time. You can also prevent frost or mildew by draining all remaining liquid from the appliances, including internal and external parts like tanks, hoses and tubes.

Ensure that appliances and electronics are sparkling clean, inside and out – especially those used to store or prepare food. A small crumb or smear can attract bugs and pests.

Fend off unwanted visitors by covering items with insect repellent Use cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil for a more natural repellent and check your storage unit regularly for bugs and pests.

Transport, wrap, and store glass separately If possible, remove all glass parts from your items and wrap them in bubble wrap or blankets.

Store smaller electronics like iPads, laptops, and cameras in the original box they came in. This was designed to protect them.
